The Importance of a Healthy Lymphatic System

If you are like most people, you have never really heard of the body’s lymphatic system, and because of that, the importance of maintaining the lymphatic system is overlooked on a regular basis. The lymphatic system is a drainage system that is closely connected to the circulatory system. The lymphatic system is a network of vessels called lymph nodes which circulate a thin, white, watery fluid called lymphatic fluid.

The main function of this immense system is to support immune system function by filtering toxins, hormones, viruses, bacteria, germs and other foreign matter from the body where it is delivered to the kidneys, liver, spleen, skin and other organs to be filtered and removed from the body. The support that the lymphatic system provides to the immune system is vital to keeping the body free from disease. It also helps to deliver vital nutrients and oxygen to the body.

The lymphatic system does differ from the circulatory system in one vital way. The circulatory system has the heart that continuously pumps blood through the blood vessels, but the lymphatic system has no pump to continuously pump lymphatic fluid through the body. So, it needs help to filter out toxins. If not, there will be a buildup of excess fluid in the tissues, and an increase in viruses and disease.

Stress, germs, viruses, bacteria, medication use, chemical food additives, smoking, alcohol consumption and environmental toxins all bombard this system with material that needs to be filtered. Without the filtering of those toxins, they are allowed to buildup in the body. Without this filtering, you will experience a significant increase in health issues.

When you actively work to keep your lymphatic system healthy, you will notice that you are able to fight viruses and disease much more easily. You are guaranteed to not only be healthier, but you will have more energy and just plain feel better!

The best ways to do this are through exercise, deep breathing, and manual lymphatic massage. Aerobic exercise of any type will help to move the lymph, but one of the most beneficial forms of aerobic exercise to move lymph is rebounding (bouncing on a mini-trampoline).
